Our Mission & Vision

The Mission: The mission of the Sankofa Achievement Center, Inc. is to enhance academic achievement, promote cultural enrichment through the arts, and foster the development of social skills among underserved youth.

The Vision: The Sankofa Achievement Center envisions its organization as a place where every student will develop deep understanding of the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue higher education, promote entrepreneurship , contribute to the civic well-being of the community, and have the opportunity for a rewarding and fulfilling life where culture and diversity drives direction. Our five-pronged purpose is as follows:

  1. Leadership Encourages leadership qualities in youth without mandatory leadership roles, allowing them to participate, contribute, and lead in activities.

  2. Active Agents Engages youth as active participants, involving them in service design, delivery, and evaluation alongside adults in partnership.

  3. Youth Asset Encourages and enhances youth assets for positive growth, preparing them for a successful adulthood.

  4. Intentional Processes Intentional process to promote protective factors in young people and complement efforts to prevent risky behaviors and address negative behaviors.

  5. Civic Engagement Civic involvement and engagement by youth in schools and communities through service. SAC involves the entire community, values youth, family, and partners, with a focus on youth-adult collaboration for solutions.

We operate a nonprofit multipurpose facility governed by an active 9-member volunteer board of directors, including three of the organization’s founders. We offer a variety of programs at our center to meet the needs of those we serve.

Background & Impact Statement

Background Statement: The Sankofa Achievement Center, Inc. was established and founded as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2011, our nonprofit organization is dedicated to empowering youth from low socioeconomic backgrounds to overcome obstacles and prepare for life. With over a decade of academic success stories generated through our after-school programs and summer camps, we have transitioned into a fully operational primary school. By instilling the wisdom of our ancestors and igniting a passion for excellence, Sankofa has established itself as a beacon in the community, embodying the adage that it takes a village to raise a child.

Impact Statement: See How We Put Your Donations To Work. Since 2012 The Sankofa Achievement Center, Inc. has assisted and transitioned 65 K-12 students to graduate from high school. Provided 150 scholarships for students to attend summer camp and after school programming. Today, we are still thriving as a full primary school center in Davidson County, serving more than 50 at-risk youth a year with a variety of programs and services. Since our inception, we have proudly served more than 600 youth in Davidson County. To date we have accumulated over 1,700 hours of volunteer service.
